“Functional training and functional living in one’s everyday life”
Functional training is extremely important to one’s overall fitness game. Functional training mimics the movements of everyday life and puts them into a form of exercise. For example, when you are kneeling down, you are actually doing a lunge. When you are getting up out of bed, you are actually doing a sit up. When you stand up from sitting in a chair or sitting down in one, you are actually doing a squat. Mimicking daily living movements and putting them into a form of exercise, you reduce the risk of injury. You also increase your fitness performance.
When you train functional, you start to live more functional. With that being said, you become stronger in all areas of your body-most importantly your foundation which is your legs and your core. Your speed and agility are increased, your power and endurance are increased, your balance is better, you are no longer slouching over and sit upright which as a result your posture is better, your aches and pains are less and fewer, most importantly you boost your self esteem because you feel better. The keys to living a functional life is to be consistent with your functional training. Supplement this with aerobic training. Make healthier choices in your diet. Be sure to hydrate properly and to give your body the proper rest, when needed.
Throughout our daily living, you can take training functional anywhere you want. Whether we are at home playing with the kids, working at the office late, protecting our country, fighting fires, etc… Everyone’s job in one way or the other ties into functional. Bending, twisting, walking or running up stairs, kneeling down, sitting down, kids hanging onto you, getting in and out of the car, opening a jar of jelly, keep in mind that training functional can be done anywhere. At home, at a gym, and even at a park. You can take functional training anywhere you want.
